To not use up the planet’s resources
In our country, as we produce and consume goods and services, we still act as if the material resources that we use are inexhaustible. Nowadays, humans need one and a half planet Earths to supply our needs, and it is calculated that if we continue at the same rate, by 2050 we will need three planets, something that we clearly don’t have!
Earth Overshoot Day is the day when we use up the annual budget of available resources. Year after year, we “eat” the planet earlier, and bring forward the arrival of the day on which it is already impossible to regenerate the resources which we have consumed. In the year 2000 it was on the 1st October; by 2017 it had advanced to the 2nd August.
